On Saturday, January 29 and Sunday, January 30, I facilitated a workshop at Mandala Yoga Community called Life Stages, Initiation, and Elders. We took an integrative look at all three topics and how we can live into a more mature and sustainable future as a community. We shared in material by Bill Plotkin, Richard Rohr, Michael Meade and wisdom passed down over centuries of wisdom-based communities. I cannot emphasize enough the importance and depth of what shared together and how it effects the world for our children's children's children. This is not a time for half-assing it. Here is our first round of dialog on Stage 4: The Wanderer in the Cocoon. Another rich conversation! Lots of personal sharing, poetry, reflection, and some words from Bill Plotkin himself (via recording) on this pivotal stage of life. Here is our first of two conversations about Chapter 6 of Plotkin's NATHS: Stage 3 - The Thespian at the Oasis. Lots of topics to cover in this time of life! This is the stage of early adolescence, when our primary orientation moves beyond our family and out into our larger community and society. A time of self-discovery, in which we learn to create our own "social drama". Plenty of rich dialogue this week-- we focused on rites of passage, learning the ways of society, finding our authenticity, our society's educational system, and more! Check it out.

We had a very powerful dialog last Tuesday in Spiritual Integration, focusing on Stage 2 of Plotkin's Eco- and Soulcentric Wheel of Human Development: The Explorer in the Garden. After a particularly rich check-in, we framed some of the main features of Middle Childhood, then dove right in to personal reflection and sharing on our own experiences from these early years of life. The group was really present this evening, sharing some beautiful and sometimes challenging memories from childhood: independence, abandonment, the myths and stories we grew up with, our first encounters with the natural world. This is the third installment of our Spiritual Integration series on Nature and the Human Soul by Bill Plotkin. This week, we focused on Stage 1: The Innocent in the Nest. Unfortunately, we had some technical difficulties and only ended up recording the first minute or so of the conversation! So Nate and I got together the next evening after a yummy dinner and rehashed the content for this week. We reviewed the outline, added in some further reflection from our conversation last night, and went over the suggested homework for our next meeting.
